Why Peer Networks Like the Sandbox Centre Matter More Than Ever

Peer networks like the Sandbox Centre are needed now, more than ever.

Recently, I had the privilege of sharing my “Untold Story” for our After Dark Series, where I reflected on why peer connection has always been central to our mission—and why it’s become even more critical today.

Before founding Sandbox, I participated in several executive development groups that provided tremendous insight and inspiration. But I noticed a gap: few spaces existed for middle management and emerging leaders to access the same level of support, mentorship, and collaboration.

That realization shaped the foundation of Sandbox Centre, which we launched in 2017 as a space where professionals at all levels could come together to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and give back to one another. Our self-empowered Peer Groups connect entrepreneurs, intrapreneurs, and innovators across industries—acting as catalysts for growth and transformation.

In our post-pandemic world, these connections are essential. Research from Yale School of Management shows that professional networks have shrunk by up to 16% since 2020, largely due to remote work and social isolation. Yet it’s often the people at the edges of our networks who bring the most revolutionary ideas and opportunities.

At Sandbox, we’re rebuilding those bridges by creating a collaborative ecosystem where inspiration, innovation, and community thrive.
